Pat Robertson: the Ugly Face of Distorted and Crazed Thinking Disguised as Christianity

Pat Robertson represents the fringe element of a version of Christianity that has been turned on its head. He had the temerity to “advise” the government in the following way:

“….You know, I don't know about this doctrine of assassination, but if he thinks we're trying to assassinate him, I think that we really ought to go ahead and do it. It's a whole lot cheaper than starting a war. And I don't think any oil shipments will stop. But this man is a terrific danger and the United ... This is in our sphere of influence, so we can't let this happen. We have the Monroe Doctrine, we have other doctrines that we have announced. And without question, this is a dangerous enemy to our south, controlling a huge pool of oil, that could hurt us very badly. We have the ability to take him out, and I think the time has come that we exercise that ability. We don't need another $200 billion war to get rid of one, you know, strong-arm dictator. It's a whole lot easier to have some of the covert operatives do the job and then get it over with…..”

This man has the intellectual capacity of a tapeworm. The world he envisions is one in which his distorted views of humanity are fashioned into reality through whatever means are required, regardless of the cost in lives and the toll in human misery and suffering. Behind his exceedingly transparent mask of Christian righteousness hides an unmistakable racism and a deeply disturbing fascist mentality. His comments are worth noting only in as much as there is a sizeable following that takes him seriously.

It is important to keep in mind that this man’s charge that Chavez is a dictator is, of course, an outrageous lie. The man was duly elected by the people of Venezuela. In addition, a recent probe into the business dealings of Mr. Robertson has revealed that a private corporation that he operated know as the African Development Co. (ADC) based in Zaire had close ties with the late dictator of Zaire: Mobutu Sese Seko. As a result of this political connection, the ADC received vast forestry and mineral concessions.

It seems that Mr. Robertson is not adverse to dealing with dictators provided that he benefit economically from the relationship. This man spews venom and hatred on a regular basis, and is dangerous only to the extent that his views are taken seriously.
